Pixel 8a Bug Information
A user report titled "Pixel 8a Data Transfer Issue - Unusable" was posted in the Pixel Community.
The title is quite provocative, and the content matches the dire situation described.
I am considering purchasing the Pixel 8a, so I am noting this information before making a decision.
Data Transfer Failure
According to the thread starter, during the data transfer process from Pixel 5a to Pixel 8a, the transfer failed and the device became bricked.
While it could be a case of initial defect, it seems the device cannot even be restored to factory settings. It's a disastrous situation.
Examples
The user seems to have performed the usual transfer process, so if it's not an issue specific to the Pixel 8a, it could be a fatal bug.
Have You Tried Factory Reset?
I once failed to set up my Pixel 6a because I was drunk during the setup process.
At that time, I was able to resolve the issue by returning the device to factory settings.
In this case, the poster seems to have attempted FastBoot mode and Recovery Mode, so they might not have been able to return it to factory settings?
Recovery Mode is used for actions like sideloading, so the fact that "No command" was displayed suggests a possibility of recovery.
When you see the "No command" screen, hold the power button while pressing the volume up button to transition to the recovery mode screen. From there, select "Wipe data/factory reset" to return to factory settings.
Support Center Does Not Reply in the Community
Google Support representatives do review information posted in the Pixel Community, but they do not write replies for individual cases. The community administrators have made this clear.
Therefore, users can raise issues and seek information in the Pixel Community, but they should not expect a response from Google Support.
Even if you purchase from the Google Store expecting trade-in support, given issues like this, it might be better to buy from a carrier store.
If you purchase from a carrier store, you can visit the service counter directly to file complaints and easily get a replacement.
