At the time of writing this article, it can be installed from the Chrome Web Store, so it seems that the discussion with Google has ended and the concerns have been cleared.

The version when the distribution was stopped is v1.1.2, but the version after the distribution is restarted is v1.2.0 (2019/09/13).

The differences are as follows.

Streaming media

Stream Recorder is a Google Chrome extension that allows you to save streaming videos uploaded to your website with the extension -.MP4.

Only HLS method is supported.

The HLS method consists of a file (-.m3u8) that describes the path (URL) where the actual movie file is stored, and a video file (-.TS).

HLS: HTTP Live Streaming, -.m3u8

Videos other than HLS are supported by Tokyo Loader for Chrome developed by the same author. (See related article)

How to use "Stream Recorder"

When you install the stream recorder, an icon will be displayed on the toolbar of Chrome.

If the icon changes to a large red circle when playing a website video, the video is delivered in HLS format.

Download procedure

Simply click on the large red circle icon on the Chrome toolbar and the stream recorder will automatically perform the download and merge.

The divided multiple TS files are saved in the working folder of the stream recorder.

When all TS files have been downloaded, the stream recorder will combine the files, convert them to .MP4 format, and move them to the specified folder.

Click the large red circle icon
New tab opens and download starts
Save split files (-.ts) to working folder sequentially
After acquiring all TS files, combine them in the download order
Extension-convert to .MP4
Move to Chrome download folder
