This article is about [Event ID 455] which is now recorded when updating to Windows 10 v1903.

The outline of the event log is shown in the table at the beginning.
Details are described in the next section.

[Source: ESENT] in the event log is a first-time word, so it's the first time I'll cover this blog.

The full path of EDB.log recorded in the event log is as follows.

EDB.log
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log

When tracing the local drive of the PC, the following path did not exist.

\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log

From the above, it can be inferred that [Event ID 455] is a signal that the Windows system has failed to record something in the log file EDB.log.

The steps I took to repair [Event ID 455] are:
  1. Create a new\TileDataLayer\Database
  2. Restart your PC

Since [Event ID 455] is recorded on another PC of the same OS version, it seems to be a bug of Windows 10 v1903.

Please read the next section for the specific procedure.

Repair procedure

As mentioned at the beginning, because the error is caused by trying to write the log to a directory where the Windows system does not exist, create a folder with the same configuration as the path recorded in the event log.

The procedure to perform is as follows.

Afterword

Will Microsoft argue that this ESENT error is a specification? (꒪⌓꒪)

[TILEREPOSITORYS] recorded in the event log was related to the tile database (start menu).

The Database folder is backed up when backing up the tile layout of the start menu, so the folder that stores the setting information related to Windows 10 tiles is the Database folder.

\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log

In this blog, when [Event ID 2484] was recorded, the procedure to repair the corruption of the tile database was recorded in a note. At that time, the problem was repaired using the Microsoft official tool startmenu.diagcab.

[Event ID 455] may also fix the problem if you run startmenu.diagcab, but startmenu.diagcab is no longer available because it has finished its role and has been discontinued.

Since startmenu.diagcab has been confirmed to be downloadable from the Wayback Machine cache, it is attached to the external link.
