Amazon Fire TV Stick

I am using Amazon Fire TV Stick (2015 release version), but when I am connected to a Wi-Fi access point in the 5GHz band, the link is disconnected and the access point cannot be detected.

The link will be restored when switching to the 2.5GHz band access point (2.5GHz-AP).

The 2.5GHz band is a frequency band that competes with microwave ovens, so the link will be broken if you use the microwave oven during meals.

I know the reason why the 2.5GHz-AP's link is broken, so I just have to wait for the microwave oven to stop, but I don't know why with 5GHz-AP.

Well, the main subject.

I was able to identify the cause of the broken link, so I will share my research results.

The Fire TV Stick is fine because the router is responsible for the broken link.

And

As far as the specs of Amazon.co.jp are concerned, I think that Fire TV Stick 4K will not be broken. (I guess I don't have it)

Old and new Fire TV Stick specifications

New version now supports 802.11ac.

Reference: Fire TV Stick 4K does not have channel limitation for 5GHz band. (Compatible with W52, W53, W56)

Causes and countermeasures

As mentioned in the table in the previous section, the Fire TV Stick supports the W52 channel range in the 5GHz band.

Our router's 5GHz (IEEE802.11ac /n /a compatible) can use the W52 /W53 /W56 channel range.

And it was set to use all.

When the router switched to the W53 /W56 channel range at some point, the link with the Fire TV Stick was broken.

Therefore,

Limiting the router's channel range to W52 only solves the problem.

Summary

Fire TV Stick users should limit the router's 5GHz-AP channel range to [W52].

Fire TV Stick 4K users do not need to do anything.

At the time of writing this article, the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K were undecided.

It is a popular device.
Is it a special corona supply?

surely,

If you bring a Fire TV Stick when you stay at a hotel on a business trip, you can watch NetFlix, YouTube, Abema TV, Hulu, TVer, etc. in your own account environment, which is very useful.

Supplement

The snapshot shown in the previous section limits the range of channels used to W52 and sets the channels used to [Automatic setting].

The channels used for auto-configuration are [36,40,44,48] channels.
